How to take photos of your car accident

There are many steps to take in the aftermath of a traffic collision. You should contact the police and see a doctor to make sure you did not sustain any injuries. It is also important to take plenty of photos at the scene to help with your insurance claim and potential court case.

Photographic evidence is a huge asset in car accident claims. Here are tips to remember if you ever need to take pictures from such an incident.

Get the entire scene

You can use a smartphone to take pictures, and you want to make sure you get both close-ups and wide range shots of the accident. You want to document the damage both vehicles sustained. Taking a photo from far away will also show if there are any skid marks on the road, which shows the driver attempted to bring the car to a stop.

Take pictures of any injuries

Some wounds will remain hidden, but others are readily apparent. You should take pictures of any injuries anyone involved in the collision received.

Include pictures of the inside of your car

While your focus may be on the car's exterior, you also want several photos of the interior. These photos will show whether the airbags deployed and how much the glass shattered. These photos also help to show whether your personal property, such as another phone, became damaged.

Look for contributing factors

An obstructed sign or a pothole in the road could have contributed to the collision. This increases the number of people who were ultimately negligent for this accident to occur.

Turn on the timestamp feature

Using a third-party app, you can add timestamps to the photos you take using a smartphone. You will absolutely want this in a collision to confirm when exactly the collision occurred. In the event time is of the essence, then you can forgo the app and simply write down the date and time on a separate piece of paper.
